Nigerian student, 20, shot dead by police: report

Nigerian students have been shot dead and three others injured in clashes with police in Gaborone on the outskirts of the capital, Nairobi.

The Nigerians have been protesting against the country’s ruling party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), since last year’s election, and the country is divided between the government and the MDC.

The government has maintained that the MDP-controlled parliament is being controlled by the MDS, but the MOSC has said it has not taken control of the parliament since the elections.

Nigerian news website Niger 24 said on Twitter that four people had been shot, including two men in the legs.

The MOSCs spokesman, Nidal Aliyu, told Reuters news agency that the three students were shot after they tried to prevent the police from shooting a protester.

The student was shot in the chest and is currently in intensive care, Aliyue said.

Nigeria has seen a series of violent protests since last April over the election results, in which the MDA won by a landslide.

In September, MDS leader Abubakar Shekau was shot dead in the streets by police.
