NHL.com: Capitals trade winger Jaden Schwartz to Buffalo for forward Zach Werenski

The New York Islanders are moving forward with a blockbuster trade for forward Jaden Schrager, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to The Biz.

The trade, if it goes through, would send center Ryan Pulock and defenseman Nick Leddy to the Buffalo Sabres.

Schrager, 27, is entering the final year of his three-year, $4.6 million deal with the Capitals.

The two-way forward was acquired in a three-team trade with the New Jersey Devils in October.

Schwartz, 22, was the third overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

He had four goals and 18 points in 45 games with the Albany Devils last season.

He had two goals and six points in 18 games with Buffalo this season.

Schwarz’s deal will be subject to waivers.

The Islanders will need to send three forwards to the Sabres for Schrager before they can trade him.

Schreitzer has played in six games with Washington this season, recording one assist.
